America’s Third Choice and God’s Judgment

I’m sure there has never been a female American president in history. The coming election may be a possibility, or maybe it’s still in the future. But in my dream, I heard a reporter of a popular American news channel referred to the American president as “she.”

The choice before eligible Americans in a few days is to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. This is always the case for any nation that forgets about God – particularly because of abundance. The ominous result for either of the choices however, is implosion or explosion.
Just like the whole world is curious and waiting to know who the American people will choose as their next president, God is also waiting to see what choice His children in that nation would make.

David was once in this dilemma. At the peak of his success and the glory of his kingdom, he forgot about God. Consequently, the scripture records that “then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.” (1Chr. 21:1) To substitute “Israel” with “America” and “David” with “American leaders” in this context will not be too far from the truth. It is probably true that the same entity that stood up against Israel and moved the leader to number Israel is also standing against America and has moved her to number America, i.e., to pride in her greatness, power, glory, and achievement and push God away.
God’s judgment came to Israel: David must choose between three evils:
  1. “Either three years of famine,
  2. or three months to be swept away before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you,
  3. or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the territory of Israel.” (1Chr 21: -11)
The three choices God gave to David were terrible ones, just like the choices before every eligible voter in America in a few days. However, knowing the choice the wise King David made would guide in the choice between the two judgments before America now.
Although, David was to choose one of the plagues but it is interesting that He chose none. (1Chr 21:13) God chose one for him anyway because judgment had already been determined.

“David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and heaven, with his drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem…” (vs 16).

There may be a similar angel with a drawn sword over America now to deliver judgment, but if the generation of David left in the land would do what David, the great leader did, the nation would be spared just like Israel was spared by the courageous and selfless action of the king. David repented and “begged” God not to destroy his city and his nation but offered himself as the sacrifice for the judgment. Then, “…the LORD commanded the angel, and he put his sword back in its sheath.”

Which of the plagues would the remnant of those who still believe God in America choose at the coming election? There is a third choice, the David’s choice. Rather than him to choose any of the plagues, he said, “I am in great distress; please let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are very great. But do not let me fall into the hand of man.” (1Chr 21:13)
