UNTIE THE COLT – Bola Olu-Jordan
“Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find colt tied, whereon yet never a man sat: lose him and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, why do you loose him? Thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him” (Luke 19: 30-31).
Jesus would ride to Jerusalem on a triumphal entry. There, He would be glorified. The people cast their garments on the way that Jesus may ride on it with a shout of ‘Hosanna, blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord’.
They would not be pacified, because, to everything there is time and season. It is the time for the Lord Jesus to be glorified and nothing could stop it. Even when the Pharisees asked Jesus to caution His disciples, He told them, “… if these should hold their peace, the stone would immediately cry out’.
As Jesus was glorified then, He would be glorified, today. He would use the same vehicle, the colt. But as the colt was tied, then, so is it today. But Jesus commanded his disciples to GO AND UNTIE THE COLT, so that He may ride with it into glory and majesty. If they did not obey Jesus, it would be difficult for Jesus to ride into Jerusalem. He needed their obedience and action. By their obedience, the innocent colt, which had been tied down for years, regained his freedom and was honoured along with Jesus.
Unfortunately today, the greatest ill that has befallen the Christendom is disobedience, by believers; the very disciples of Jesus, whom He reposed so much trust upon, and commanded to loose many of these colts: those bound by Satan, sin and the world: those tied down by the enemy, witches and wizards; to loose them in the name of the Lord. But we are not going.
Jesus did not give His disciples power to go and open a shop and attract them in, with various programs or activities. He Himself went about doing good and healing all manner of diseases’ (Acts 10:38). He did not rent a big hall, and instruments, and then go for media advertisement or map out strategy of programs and invite a popular ‘man of God’ to a deliverance and powerful rally using worldly musicians to desecrate the Holy altar, just to gather crowd to increase their ego, offering and lure people from other churches to theirs.
He sent the seventy disciples OUT ‘two by two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would go’ (Lk.10:1). He gave them power to heal the sick, etc. They returned with amazing result.
Many have been bound with various sicknesses, diseases, shame, poverty, hurts, barrenness, etc, yet the Lord has given us the power and the key to set them free and bring them to Him. He has vested us with so much authority that if anybody challenges us, the mentioning of the name of Jesus alone will silence them because at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee would bow (Phil.2:4), but we are comfortable in our churches, just sitting down to play religion, whereas we are called to go out. Amos 6:1 says woe unto them that are at ease in Zion.
The disciples were not afraid that those who tied the people would capture them because they knew that greater is He that is in them than he that is in the world. They went with thus saith the Lord’. It is not them that is setting them free, but the Master, because the master has need of them.
The Master still has need of many who are tied today. Your obedience will sent them free.
The harvest is not in the house, it is in the field. We should go out to the field and untie the colts through the power Jesus has given us. Because the harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Will you be one. God out and untie a colt this week. Remember, God is by your side. He would be glorified in them.
