Left Overs - Bola Olu-Jordan
One day, a slave approached his master and requested that he would treat him like a child and no longer a slave. The master replied, ‘behave like a child and I would treat you like a child’. So the boy started to do all in his power to behave like a child so as to make his master happy and call him his child.
One day, true to the master’s word, he took him to an outing where dignitaries were present. The man was the guest of honour and so his child was seated by his side.
A little while, the child excused himself to the toilet. Shortly afterwards, report flickered back to the master that ‘his son’ was in the waste bin picking left over foods. The man quickly retorted, ‘he is not my child, he is my slave’.
That is how many of us are with God. He cannot entrust us with the simplest title of a child let alone his heir. We do things unbelievers must not even attempt. Yet we go by the title of little Christ (Christian). Our lifestyle does not honour Him. People are surprised when we are called ‘born again’, or a ‘deacon’, ‘elder’. Our dress suggests something contrary. Our talk does not resemble someone who has ever met Jesus. We are engaged in shady deals that the country authority must not even hear about let alone the Godly authority. Our heart is dark with various hurts, vengeance, hatred, wrath, covetousness, anger etc (Eph. 5:3).
An adage says it is the gourd or the fowl that will dictate where to put the rope. It is we that will spell out the status of our sonship with the father (Gal. 4:6). He has already called us his own (Jas 1:18). Are we living up to that title? Will Satan not rightfully protest if Jesus calls you His child? (Rev. 12:10). Will he have evidence against you to prove that you are not? (1Pet 3:14, 1Pet. 4:16). A child is a possessor of his father’s inheritance (Gal .4:1-7). It is his as long as he is in the kingdom. Why then would the child go and scavenge for left overs? Gal. 4:19)
Miracles, healings, properity, breakthroughs, deliverance are all ours. Jesus says, all these things does the gentiles (slaves) seek after (Mat. 6:33) but don’t seek after it because they are already yours. Rather, seek for how you will be pleasing and faithful to the master (1Cor. 4:2). Seek ye first the kingdom and his righteousness; i.e. how we will be pleasing and acceptable to him. Phil. 3:9
Christians who are all out seeking for miracles, healing, prosperity, breakthroughs, etc are a disgrace to the father. Those who preach such are a calamity. They are tempters, seducing the people away from the master. 1Tim 3:13. Jesus calls them ‘workers of iniquity’ and denies ever knowing them (Mat. 7:21-23). These things are left overs. It does not secure sonship. It is the kingdom and his righteousness that does. When that is in place, then both the food and the left overs are yours. Left overs deny our claim of sonship and make the father to deny us when the accuser of the brethren comes. He said whoever denies me before men, I will deny before my father. Mat. 10:33.
It is shameful that some churches pride themselves as a miracle, healing, etc church. (Church of the left overs) (Rev. 3:15-17). They are only concerned with all these things (Col.3:1,1Cor. 15:19). The Kingdom and its Righteousness is not the reason why they are gathered but for signs and miracles. Jesus asks us to seek first the kingdom and its righteousness. What do you seek after first? His righteousness or left overs? The former belongs to the son while the other is for the slave, the spiritual descendants of Ishamel. Although born by Abraham but not of the seed of the covenant. They will not inherit the promise, for in Isaac shall the seed be blessed.
