COME HOME by Bola Olu-Jordan
I have a good news for you, friend: God loves you, despite your present situation! He was talking to you when he said through one of His prophets: ‘Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool’ (Is.1:18). There is no one too bad for Him to save. He promised: ‘him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out’ (Jn. 6:37). Jesus said: they that are whole do not need physician but they that are sick (Mat.9:12). Sin is a sickness, Jesus is the Physician. Don’t hide your sickness so that you can be healed because ‘He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy’ (Prov.28:13).
Don’t be ashamed to tell your doctor what the problem is, because he has the cure. The greater your sins are, the greater your grace. He comes for sinners like you. He comes for the broken hearted; for the weak, for the dying, helpless and for the perishing (Mat.9:13). You don’t need him when or if you are perfect.
He loves you but hates the sin in you. By his nature, He cannot look upon sin, regardless of who carries it (Hab.1:13. When Jesus decided to put the sin of the whole world upon Himself, God took His eyes away from Him: although He is His Son. Jesus cried: ‘My God, why do you forsake me’ (Mat.27:46).
God has a plan for you now and in eternity, but your sin is standing in-between. Don’t run from Him with your sins, run to Him. No one else has the cure except Him. The earlier, the better.
It is not the sin that you commit that makes you a sinner, but you are a sinner by creation: you can never do good. Your best attempts are filthy regards before him (Is.64:6). He is the only one who can purge you from sin and save you.
Come to Him with all your inadequacies. Come to Him with all your vices, habits and character. He loves you, but hates those things and He wants to help you out. Don’t condemn yourself, because He does not condemn you (Jn.8:4); he is only asking you to come. You are not the problem; it is the flesh that you carry, a body (burden) of sin. It cannot do good by default. But when you come to Christ, He makes you a new creature (1Cor.5:17). He takes away the sin nature and gives you His nature so that it will be impossible for you to sin again (1John.3:9).
You won’t need to struggle to quit drinking, smoking, cheating, lying, or loving your enemies, or even struggle to make your thought right with God. You won’t struggle to please or to love Him. The nature would have been built into you when you declare for Him. This is called ‘Agape’ Love, the unconditional love that only God is capable to give or exhibit. Until you do that, you will continue to struggle: knowing what is good and expected of you, but still unable to do it. Paul was in this situation too, and he concluded that it was not him doing it (1Cor.7:15). So it is not you, it is the sin-nature, but you can nail it to the cross right now.
Run to Jesus today. Come to Him just as you are. As bad, wretched, poor, naked, blind, weak as you are. His hands are not too heavy to save. Only if you will know the extent of His love for you; laying down his life for you. He is waiting for the time when you will return back to Him and He can welcome you in His everlasting arms, then wash you from all guilts and stains and then lead you to the Father and they can both rejoice over you.
What is your decision? Ignore this invitation? Unfortunately, there is always a time for everything. Who knows whether this is your last chance? If you say you will not die what of if He comes?
Come home, sister, come home brother. He is waiting for you, singing, ‘Come home come home, if you are weary come home. Earnestly waiting and singing and calling, calling, oh, sinners come home’.
He says: ‘Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out’ (Jn.6:37). Come home, He is waiting with an outstretched hand, to welcome you home. Come today, tomorrow may be too late.
